My Work

My work explores resilience, duality, and beauty born from struggle. I juxtapose opposing forces—freedom and bondage, tears and majesty, fragility and sharpness—to create visual metaphors about identity, heritage, and the human spirit. I'm drawn to powerful symbols and contrasting materials. My pieces engage with historical pain and cultural identity while celebrating endurance and dignity. I acknowledge suffering without being consumed by it, recognizing brokenness while insisting on wholeness. There's a thread of defiant grace running through everything I make.

Onyx Sway

This powerful artwork depicts a woman dancing despite being enslaved—a striking image of resilience and defiance. The contrast between her physical chains and her movement speaks to the unconquerable human spirit. Her dance becomes an act of resistance, showing that while her body may be bound, her soul remains free. The piece captures how creativity and cultural expression can transcend oppression, celebrating the strength to maintain dignity and humanity even in captivity.

Sacred Sorrow

The piece speaks to Africa's pain and beauty: the unicorn's mythical purity contrasts with real historical and ongoing struggles—colonization, exploitation, conflict, and loss. Yet the unicorn also represents hope, magic, and resilience. The tears acknowledge suffering while the majestic creature embodies the continent's enduring spirit and untapped potential. This image invites reflection on Africa's complex story—simultaneously wounded and wondrous, bearing scars yet remaining extraordinary.

Wings of Biracial Grace

This photograph captures a black and white butterfly, showcasing nature's elegant simplicity through monochromatic beauty. The stark contrast between the dark and light patterns on its wings creates a striking visual that emphasizes form, symmetry, and delicate detail.

The Glass Garden

This mixed-media artwork juxtaposes natural beauty with fragile, broken materials to create a meditation on transformation and resilience. A drawn peacock feather—symbolizing pride, beauty, and watchfulness—sits alongside a paper flower whose stem is crafted from broken glass. Together, these elements explore themes of beauty born from brokenness, the coexistence of fragility and sharpness, and how we construct beauty from what's been damaged. The piece suggests that even broken things can support growth, and that artificial creations can hold their own grace alongside nature's wonders.
